KEATING LEADS 40 COLLEAGUES URGING POTUS TO RESCIND EO ON USAGM
Washington, D.C. – Today, Subcommittee on Europe Ranking Member Bill Keating led 40 colleagues urging President Trump to immediately reverse his Executive Order regarding the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and to restore and implement Congressionally appropriated funds for USAGM and its entities.
“USAGM and its entities including Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, and more serve as a vital soft power tools that enables those in closed societies to gain access to credible, reliable, and objective information about the world. Their work is so powerful that regimes in Iran, Russia, and China have condemned it as a threat to national security,” said Ranking Member Keating. “President Trump’s reckless Executive Order hides the truth from those who seek it and emboldens American adversaries who are threatened by credible media. At the same time, the President undermines the work of countless civil servants and government employees whose dedicated work at these agencies and entities have made America safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”
