KEATING, FITZPATRICK REINTRODUCE LEGISLATION PROHIBITING RUSSIAN PARTICIPATION IN THE G7
Washington, DC - Congressmen Bill Keating, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Europe, and Brian Fitzpatrick, Ukraine Caucus Co-Chair, have reintroduced legislation that prohibits the use of federal funds to support or facilitate the participation of the Russian Federation in the G7. As Russia continues its full-scale war in Ukraine, this important legislation makes clear that the Russian aggression in Ukraine has long-term and irrefutable consequences.
“Today, I am reintroducing bipartisan legislation to prohibit Russian participation in the G7 or any reconstitution of the G8” said Ranking Member Keating. “Since February 2022, the United States along with our G7 allies, have led a 50+ country response to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Together, we have provided billions in military, humanitarian, and financial support to Ukraine, implemented unprecedented sanctions against the Kremlin, and fostered a global coalition to defend democracy and freedom in Ukraine. This legislation makes clear that Vladimir Putin’s illegal aggression and his malign partnerships with China, North Korea, and Iran will not go unanswered.”
“Russia’s persistence in their unlawful and unprovoked full-scale aggression against our ally, Ukraine, is unacceptable and must disqualify the Russian Federation from participating in the Group of Seven (G7) forum,” said Co-Chair of the Ukraine Caucus Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick. “Our bipartisan effort will ensure not a single federal dollar is put toward any Russian participation in the G7, while delivering a strong message to Vladimir Putin: the United States is committed to countering Russia’s unjust war through every means at our disposal. We will never waver in our pursuit to dismantle the Russian Federation’s barbaric actions and safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty and freedom.”
