BELARUS CAUCUS CO-CHAIRS INTRODUCE RESOLUTION CONDEMNING FRADULENT BELARUSIAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Co-Chairs of the Friends of Belarus Caucus, Representatives Bill Keating, (D-MA), Joe Wilson (R-SC), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), and Chris Smith (R-NJ) introduced a resolution condemning the fraudulent Belarusian presidential election and calling for continued support for the people of Belarus in their fight for democracy. As the Lukashenka regime continues its repression of Belarusian democratic opposition, this important resolution reaffirms support for the Belarusian people and calls for free and fair elections consistent with international standards.
“Today, we are introducing a bipartisan resolution denouncing the January 26, 2025, illegitimate Belarusian presidential election and expressing our steadfast support for Belarusian people in their pursuit of liberty, democracy, human rights, and rule of law,”said the Co-Chairs. “This resolution ensures that the Lukashenka regime’s fraudulent elections, crackdowns on civil society, imprisonment of political opposition and journalists, and support of Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine will not go unanswered. Today, and every day, we stand with the Belarusian people as they fight for a democratic future free from authoritarian repression.”
