One of Rep. Keating’s first initiatives was to create a Women’s Advisory Board.  The members on the Board represent a diverse sampling of the women throughout the district – they are professionals, public servants, community leaders and small businesswomen – who advise the Congressman on issues both in Washington and at home that are impacting women in the 10^th Congressional District.

Members of the Women’s Advisory Board from the South Shore will be present at this Breakfast with Bill, and all who are interested in women’s issues are invited to attend.

WIC, which stands for Women, Infants and Children, is a federal program where grants are awarded to States for “supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.” (http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/)

Quincy Medical Center’s WIC program serves almost 5,000 eligible women, infants and children from 20 towns.

South Shore Breast Cancer Awareness Event/Tour of Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center

Rep. Keating will be speaking about the importance of regular breast cancer screenings and highlighting how South Shore Hospital can be a resource for constituents.

The Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, which is celebrating its second anniversary this month, features:

• “Medical oncology and radiation oncology services provided by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
• A multispecialty surgical oncology program provided by physicians from South Shore Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital
• Diagnostic imaging services provided by South Shore Hospital and Harbor Medical Associates
• South Shore Hospital’s Breast Care Center, providing a full range of comprehensive care for both benign and malignant breast conditions”
