Washington, DC – Today, Members of the United States House of Representatives, the European Parliament, and the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada issued a rare joint statement regarding the continued security threat at the Ukrainian border posed by Russia.
As Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Energy, the Environment and Cyber, I want to express strong support for U.S. engagement in the Western Balkans as a geo-strategic region that is vital for peace and stability in Europe.
Commencing today and continuing into next week, military forces from Russia and Belarus will take part in Zapad 2021. Zapad, meaning “West” in Russian, is a military exercise conducted on Russia’s Western borders to showcase their strategic capabilities and practice operational maneuvers.
Today, Chair Bill Keating and Ranking Member Brian Fitzpatrick released a statement condemning Turkish Cypriot actions, with the support of Turkey, to further reopen the Cypriot town of Varosha.
